Not knowing what will happen is one of the main reasons people put off a first chiropractic appointment. This guide walks through a first visit at Kind Chiropractic in Bangsar, step by step, so you know what to bring, what we will ask and examine, when X-rays are used and what the visit costs. Every body and every visit is different, so treat it as a guide and ask us anything before you come.

How long it takes
The initial consultation and assessment takes around 45 to 60 minutes. Follow-up visits are shorter, usually 15 to 45 minutes.
Step 1: we listen
The visit starts with your story: what is bothering you, when it started, what makes it better or worse, how it affects your work, sleep and daily life, and your wider health history, including past injuries and medication. Tell us if you are, or might be, pregnant. The more you tell us, the better we can judge what is likely to help and whether you should see a doctor first.
Step 2: we examine
We then examine you. At Kind Chiropractic we use the Gonstead system, which looks at your spine in five ways: visual observation, instrumentation, static palpation (feeling the spine at rest), motion palpation (feeling how the joints move) and, when there is a clinical reason, X-ray analysis. Depending on your complaint we may also check your reflexes, strength and sensation, especially if you have pain, numbness or tingling that travels into an arm or leg. You can read more on our Gonstead chiropractic page.

About X-rays
X-rays are not routine at Kind Chiropractic and are not taken before every treatment plan. We take them in the clinic when there is a clinical reason. If we recommend one, you are welcome to ask why we need it and what it will tell us, and what it costs. If you already have recent X-rays or an MRI, bring them.
Step 3: we explain what we found
After the assessment we tell you what we found, in plain language, and what we suggest. We will be honest if we think your problem is outside what chiropractic care can help with or would be better served by another specialist or a doctor, and we will refer you. If chiropractic care is suitable, we give you a personalised plan with a recommended schedule. The number of sessions varies with your condition, how severe it is and how long you have had it.
Ask whether you will have an adjustment on the first visit; it depends on your assessment and your agreement. Nothing happens without your consent, and you can ask us to stop at any point. Chiropractic care does not replace your doctor: keep taking any prescribed medication and keep your medical appointments, and talk to your doctor before changing either.
What you may feel afterwards
Adjustments are generally not painful. Some people feel mild soreness or tiredness afterwards, similar to after a workout, which usually settles within a day or two. If you feel worse, or something feels wrong, contact us. If you develop sudden weakness, a drooping face, slurred speech, chest pain or severe breathlessness, do not wait: call 999 or go to the nearest emergency department.
What it costs
Our pricing page lists an initial consultation with history taking at RM 90 and a first treatment with report of findings at RM 210. Follow-up sessions are RM 150, and care packages are available. X-rays are charged separately and only when needed. Ask us when you book which price line applies to your first appointment. We explain every price in our chiropractic cost guide, and the current prices are on the pricing page.

- What do you think is causing my problem, and how sure are you?
- What does the plan involve, and how will we know whether it is working?
- Do I need X-rays, and what will they change?
- What can I do at home between visits?
- When should I see a doctor instead, or as well?
Do I need a referral to see a chiropractor? No. You can book directly, although we welcome referrals from other healthcare providers.
Will I have to take my clothes off? Wear comfortable clothing you can move in. If we need to look at or feel a particular area, we will explain why and ask first.
